Travis comes to MARCOM after 23 years of service in the U.S. Army and U.S Coast Guard. Having spent 18 years in the Marine Safety profession, and the last 14 years conducting marine inspections and as a Port Operation Chief, Travis brings extensive knowledge in all facets of marine safety, security, and environmental response.
While serving at Marine Safety Office (and later Sector) Charleston, SC, Travis occupied many roles to include bulk oil terminal and facility inspector, Federal On-Scene Coordinator’s Representative, domestic and foreign MTSA/ISPS verifying officer, and port state and foreign freight vessel examiner. After attending the Coast Guard’s marine inspection course and an apprenticeship in a major drydock/shipyard repair facility, Travis went on to oversee new vessel construction, weld repairs, and vessel re-fit/repair operations. For the final two years of his tour in Charleston, Travis served as the manager of the towing vessel inspection program for Charleston’s towing vessel fleet of responsibility.
After a tour at Marine Safety Unit Lake Charles, LA, overseeing environmental response and conducting facility and vessel inspections within the tug/barge industry, Travis went on the serve as the Port Operations Chief at Sector Juneau, AK. In that role, Travis oversaw and conducted hundreds of inspections on bulk oil facilities, vessels, and barges, as well as conducting facility and vessel MTSA compliance exams and explosive load supervisory details.
Travis received his Category 3 SIRE accreditation in April 2019, and will conduct SIRE inspection on inland and offshore chemical and oil carrying barges, inland and offshore towing pushing vessels, as well as ATB units. Travis is based in Lake Charles, LA.
